Rent a Pick up Truck One Way

Some rental companies are extremely accommodating about one-way truck rentals, and even offer free unlimited mileage on the rental. However, many car rental companies offer little in the way of pick up trucks even for round-trip rentals, and others do not permit customers to rent a pick up truck one way.

Enterprise

Enterprise’s web site is informative about its fleet of pick up trucks and commercial trucks for round-trip, but not one-way rentals. Although the site claims to offer one-way rentals, it directs the customer to a toll-free number for further assistance. After calling this number, customers are informed they will need to call whichever airport is closest to see if that location offers one-way rentals, as no one at the company seems to be privy to this information. Enterprise does offer one way pick up truck rentals, but they don’t make it easy for customers to obtain them, and it takes a proactive and very determined customer to track down locations, rates, and availability.

Hertz

Although there are some location limitations, Hertz makes it simple to rent a pick up truck one way. They offer a Chevrolet Silverado 4WD or similar pick up that holds two passengers and comes with an automatic transmission and A/C. They also offer free unlimited miles on many rentals, and free customer pickup and return service within 15 minutes of the location is available at participating airport locations for additional convenience. Unlike other companies, Hertz does not charge a separate drop-off fee for most rentals. Hand controls and navigation systems are also available.

National

This company offers the Chevrolet Colorado or the Chevrolet Silverado, and both trucks have automatic transmissions and air conditioning. National is an internationally recognized brand known throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They encourage the use of online reservations to rent pick up trucks, and offers members of its award-winning Emerald Club an expedited rental process via counter bypasses and e-receipts. However, as with some other car rental companies, the locations for pick up truck rental may be limited, and customers are advised to book well in advance.

U-Haul

This company offers one of the simplest and least expensive ways to rent a pick up truck one way. Their pick up truck beds measure about 8 ft. long by 5 ft. wide by 2 ft. high for ample hauling space, and have a maximum load of just over 1,500 lbs. These trucks also have a towing capacity of 5,500 lbs. All pick ups include A/C, automatic transmissions, V-8 engines, SRS/air bags, and a gentle-ride suspension. U-Haul’s trucks are equipped with a fuel economy gauge, and the truck’s 26-gallon tank gets around 19 miles per gallon, depending on the vehicle’s load, driving speed, and weather conditions.

Depending the circumstances and on your personal needs, renting a pick up truck for a one way trip can be a fairly cost-effective and convenient, as there is no return of the truck. You simply drop it off at the nearest location. However, these are best booked as far in advance as possible, as they can be in short supply.
